Endpoint through a passive path
Inspect the SSD beyond the passive adapter.
Four-drive Gen4 NVMe carrier carries the NVMe drive’s PCIe connection. The installed SSD is the device to select in Header7F; the passive carrier is not an independently enumerated controller.
- Check slot wiring, M.2 keying, drive size and mounting. For a multi-drive passive carrier, confirm the motherboard’s required PCIe bifurcation support.
- Find each installed NVMe controller’s current PCI address on Linux and import its collector JSON into the workbench.
- Compare enumeration, both link partners, resources and relevant AER observations with a known-good installation. Keep the slot and drive positions in the investigation notes.
Header7F cannot enable bifurcation, inspect a passive carrier directly or read SSD SMART and temperature data. An adapter’s maximum generation does not determine the installed drive’s measured speed.
